To help the liver conjugate (detoxify) toxins, you need adequate supplies of antioxidants and conjugating agents: which basically means more glutathione and sulfur-based amino acids. The liver detoxifies substances in two steps: Phase 1: Relieving Oxidation, and Phase 2. Conjugation

Phase 1: Relieving Oxidation

Use:

Antioxidants: such as glutathione (see below), and superoxide dismutase;

Nutrients such as beta-carotene, vitamin E, zinc, selenium and N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), riboflavin, niacin, magnesium, iron; and

Phytonutrients such as indoles from cruciferous vegetables and quercetin.

Phase 2. Conjugation

Free radicals are neutralized by the liver's, and in fact the body’s, most powerful antioxidant: Glutathione (so they can be safely escorted out of the body).

Glutathione that is sold as a dietary supplement is mostly destroyed during digestion (nice con they get you with there)... So instead take L-Glutamine, which stimulates the liver to build up large amounts of glutathione. And thank us later.

Combining L-Glutamine with Selenium, Alpha Lipoic Acid, N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), and Tryptophan as well as Vitamins C & Vitamins E, the B Vitamin complex (and especially vitamin B12), Beta Carotene, Glycine and Pine Bark Extract, raises glutathione levels to healthy levels.

The richest food source of selenium is Ashitaba, but we bet you won't find it anywhere, so go for walnuts and brazil nuts. Other sulfur-containing substances taurine, MSM, and garlic are useful in mercury removal and ammonia detoxification as well.

Foods containing Glutathione

Foods containing glutathione include: (organic) parsley, avocado, asparagus, broccoli, cantaloupe, grapefruit, squash, orange, potato, strawberries, tomato, watermelon, wheatgrass, cabbage family, spinach, cinnamon, cardamom and cantaloupe.

Foods containing cysteine include: (organic) Barley, Garlic, Yogurt, Kefir, Cottage cheese, Tofu, Beans, Chickpeas, Oatmeal, Lentils, Eggs, Poultry, Red peppers, Brussels, Oats, Wheat germ, Red beets.

Herbs that support the liver include: Aloe extract, Barberry, Burdock root, Chicory, Cleavers, Dong quai, Dandelion root, curcumin (tumeric), Schizandra berry, Stillingia root, Milk thistle seeds, Yarrow, Yellow Dock, Parsley, Pau de Arco, Gentian. Ahh the Gentian...

Ashitaba, like most blood purifiers, stimulates liver function and helps remove heavy metals. Lecithin & B6 help the liver to detoxify. L-Carnitine feeds the heart oxygen and energy.

A note for those experiencing heightened kundalini awakening or extreme energy:

Calcium D-Glucarate helps remove fat soluble toxins, estrogens and other excess steroid hormones. Silymarin or Milk Thistle Extract is also recommended throughout a kundalini metamorphosis as there is an inflammatory cascade. Milk Thistle can be taken to lessen the damage to the liver from toxins cycling between the GI tract and the liver.

Important: for liver detoxification fasting can’t help, as the body is already challenged by free radicals and cellular breakdown. Even during a die-off stage, when food cannot be readily eaten, it is best to take antioxidant supplements and juices of foods containing glutathione and cysteine. A great kundalini recipe for comfort and nutrition is potato soup with yogurt, chopped garlic & parsley, and a light-miso mixed in at the last minute, with chopped garlic, nutmeg, ground black pepper and a mashed avocado on top for garnish.
